If your home is undergoing renovations or construction, we want to know about it. Depending on the type of project you have planned, it may or may not impact your home insurance.
For example, if you’re tackling minor renos that don’t require any structural changes to your home, your coverage may be limited. This means that you won’t have coverage for such things as vandalism, malicious acts, glass breakage, or water damage while renovating. If, on the other hand, you need to move out of your home while the work is being done or the structural integrity of your house will be altered – like building an addition or an extension – we are unable to provide you with a home policy during this time.
Why can renovations and construction impact your home insurance? These actions open up your home to more risk than usual. From demoed walls, to teams of contractors coming in and out, to power tools around the house, all of these things (and others) make it more likely that something could happen.
