Your personal belongings are anything you own that you could pack in a bag or put in a moving truck. This includes whether they're in your house or not. These items are covered up to replacement cost- meaning there’s no dollar limit to repairing or replacing these items should they be lost or damaged. For tenants and condo owners the overall dollar limit per claim is equal to your personal belongings maximum.
Special belongings refer to a small list of items that can be very expensive, therefore these items are limited to $3,000 per item, with a total value of $10,000 per claim (these amounts can be increased if you like). Examples of special belongings are jewellery, artwork, collectibles and bicycles.
There’s a few other items that also have dollar limits, such as business property and spare auto parts. These limits cannot be increased.
