Why was my insurance claim denied?

It doesn’t happen a lot, but if your claim was denied it’s probably because the loss doesn’t fall within the terms of your insurance policy. A Claims team member will discuss this with you, but here are a few of the most common insurance claim rejection reasons.

Why your home insurance claim could have been denied:

  • You breached the conditions of your policy (home is vacant or under construction)
  • Your claim is a result of negligence (neglecting maintenance)
  • You’ve made a fraudulent claim
  • You’ve provided false information (misrepresentation)
  • Your claim isn’t covered by your policy
  • The claim amount exceeds your coverage limits
  • You’ve used your home for business purposes
  • Your policy has expired or was cancelled

Why your auto insurance claim could have been rejected:

  • You breached the conditions of your policy (racing or other illegal activities)
  • You’ve made a fraudulent claim
  • You’ve provided false information (misrepresentation)
  • Your claim isn’t covered by your policy
  • The claim amount is less than your deductible
  • You used your vehicle for business (like Uber)
  • Your policy has expired or was cancelled
